All-New Improved Block Editor
The new release of WordPress 5.4 is focusing on enhancing the editing experience by improving content editor.
Now, see what has changed –
A Full-Screen WordPress Editor by Default
Now, with WordPress 5.4, you will see a full-screen post editor by default. That will give you a clean User Interface and more space to work.
If you do not like the new full-screen mode, then watch my video tutorial on how to disable full-screen mode in WordPress.
With WordPress 5.4, you will see the addition of two new blocks viz. Buttons Block and Social Icon Block.
Buttons Block –
It’s an improved version of the existing Button Block. If you have not yet reckoned the difference between the old ‘Button Block‘ and the new ‘Buttons Block,’ then let me tell you.
In the previous version of WordPress, you can only add a single button with a Solid color option. Now with the new, improved Buttons Block, you can add multiple buttons side by side. You can also add a Gradient color to the buttons.
Social Icon Block-
It is the brand new addition to WordPress. Social Icon Block will allow users to add icons from all the social platforms.
There are two ways to add social icons to your post, one searching for the term ‘Social’ in the block and the other being typing forward-slash + social ( /social ) in the editor.
Social Icon Block will only add a social link and not the social sharing button. For adding a sharing button, one needs to add a social media plugin.
In the previous versions of WordPress, the color option to texts was apply to the entire block i. e. Paragraph Block.
With WordPress 5.4, you can create more intuitive paragraph text by adding color to the inside the paragraph text.
Tik-Tok Video Embed Feature-
In the previous version of WordPress, you can directly embed YouTube videos inside your editor. In the new version, you can also add videos from popular video platform Tik-Tok.
Enhanced Latest Post Block-
The old Latest Post Block can only add recent post form your website, with the updated Latest Post Block you can now customize the post with the option to add featured images as well as Image Dimension and Image Alignment.
Improved Mobile Toolbar For Block Editing-
WordPress block editing on the go has never been that great with its moving block setting toolbar. WordPress has now fixed the issue with a stagnant toolbar on the top in WordPress 5.4 release.
Block Selection Tool-
In the WordPress 5.4 release, there is a tool to select blocks. Block Selection tools can play a vital part when you create a group of blocks.
Choose Image Size in the Gallery Block-
In the new version of WordPress 5.4, you can select the images sizes for Gallery blocks; the feature was missing the previous versions of WordPress.
Featured Image Drag & Drop-
WordPress 5.4 brings a Drag & Drop feature for Featured Image option. In the previous versions of WordPress, if you have to add a featured image to the post, you have first to upload it.
Now you can drag an image over the featured image option to add an image.
Updated Privacy Tools-
WordPress has a built-in privacy tool. The Privacy Tool gets improvement in Personal data exports, which now include community events location, custom user meta, and session tokens.
You will now get a Personal Data Export file with two extension HTML and JSON.
